Start 2010 With Intention...
|
January 2010
|
|
Dear Julia,
I
hope 2010 is treating you well thus far. This new year and decade had a
very auspicious beginning as New Year's Eve was both a full moon and a
blue moon (second full moon of the month which only happens every few
years!). Here's hoping it will bring us all much good luck and
prosperity in the coming year!
As 2009 drew to a close I started
to think about the concept of making resolutions and it gave me the
same uneasy feeling in my stomach that making rules does. I realized
that resolutions are the cousin of the stinging backhanded compliment
(when someone cannot say something nice without giving it a caveat or
an embedded insult). The problem is that resolutions often allow us to
dwell too much in the negative - what we did wrong in past and should
no longer do - and taints our admirable efforts for change. Resolutions
push us towards behavior in the extreme opposite and as we all know,
they are most often not sustainable. Just like rules, our resolutions
are made to be broken and they are usually out the window before
January comes to an end.
So what is the answer to this conundrum? Don't make resolutions this year, instead set intentions. An intention is an instance of determining mentally upon some action or result.
Ask yourself, what do you really want? Take some time in the first few
days of this new year to figure out what you want to shift in your life
and and what new things, experiences or people you want to create space
to invite in. Think of all of your dreams and heart's desires, no
matter how wild or impossible they seem. Then take paper to pen and
write your intentions down, fill as many pages as you need.
Automatically things take on more validity when we commit paper to pen.
Do a double check on your list to ensure that every intention stays
100% in the positive and has no hidden affronts or self-derision. Let
your intentions guide you through your actions and choices for the
whole year.
I look forward to connecting with each of you very
soon. Happy New Year and maybe 2010 bring you good health, happiness
and fulfillment of all your heart's intentions!
Namaste,
Julia K. Haramis
